GARDEN FOR THE BIRDS

Sangati Center, a non-profit space for Indian classical music and artist Amber Hasselbring are teaming up to bring you a sidewalk garden of California native plants. In the garden, you’ll find drought-tolerant plants with flowers, seeds, berries and insects that attract birds. Unlike concrete sidewalks, gardens absorb rainwater that is otherwise processed by the city’s overburdened water treatment system.

Garden List:

  • Oregon grape Berberis aquifolium

  • sticky monkey flower Mimulus

  • deer grass Muhlenbergia rigens

  • purple needlegrass Nassella pulchra

  • scarlet bugler Penstemon centranthifolius

  • coffeeberry Rhamnus californica

  • hummingbird sage Salvia spathacea

  • native wildflower seed

  • bamboo fencing

  • river rocks

Special thanks to those who made this garden possible:

Deepa Preeti Natarajan, Gautam Tejas Ganeshan of Sangati Center, Andrew McCluskey, Daniel Geer, Raul Leon & David Zaniba, Dara Barnett, Erin O’Brien, Dylan Hayes, Betsy Davis, Lidia Larin-Baranda of Cesar Chavez Elementary School, the Secret Garden & to all the volunteers.
